It’s been a long and beautiful season of fall colors, and there are still a few vibrant spots to explore—especially in northern Mono County (Walker, Coleville, Topaz) and a few scattered pockets of color across the region (Lee Vining Canyon, June Lake Loop, Convict Lake). However, for the most part, the area is past peak.

The nice weather will be holding through the weekend, however, and all mountain passes are open again for the moment; it’s an ideal time for a late-autumn adventure. Hike the trails before they’re snow-covered, fish before the regular season wraps up on November 15, visit Bodie State Historic Park and other sights (Mono LakeYosemiteMammoth Lakes Basin, etc.) before some roads close for winter.

Snow is in the forecast however, so as always, please be sure to check weather and road conditions before traveling. Don’t miss this last chance to enjoy the season’s beauty.
