Lucas Yan spent his Thanksgiving with a medium format digital camera in downtown Palo Alto and his own neighborhood in Sunnyvale. Yan rented the camera to give it a test drive over the holiday.

“The medium format camera’s sensor is 1.6x larger than that of a standard camera and has a much higher dynamic range which captures colors better, especially in the highlights and shadows of the image,” he explained.

He also used his own camera, which is a standard 35mm full frame, for some of the Palo Alto photos as a comparison. Which ones do you prefer?

“There is still some peak color in the residential areas of downtown Palo Alto, more so than Sunnyvale which is past peak,” he added.
