Color spotter Robert Kermen captured a special fall moment with the arrival of waterfowl into the rice fields near Richvale, California.
“Tundra Swans are the most noticeable with their snow white plumage,” he explained, “followed by Snow Geese. Most rice fields are being flooded now to prevent overwintering diseases and to speed up decomposition of the leftover rice straw. These fields provide resting areas for migratory waterfowl along the pacific flyway. The predators have arrived, too. Peregrine falcons, Bald and Golden Eagles, and Redtail Hawks.”
