I love it when our color spotters get excited, so I was thrilled to see a bubbling report from Betsy Forsyth today from Inyo County.

“It’s starting!!” she said after catching her first glimpse of pumpkin-y orange at the upper elevations in Inyo County. “Tiny patches of orange and a fair amount of yellows” were seen in the Bishop Creek Canyon area.

While things in the area are still mostly green with bits of yellow, the change is beginning with most of the yellows above 9,700′ at this point.

You can see there is quite a bit of yellow up on the hillside, which is alongside of South Lake, which sits at 9,768’. So most of the yellows are above 9,700’ at this point, she explained.

The weather is supposed to cool down this week in the Eastern Sierra, which could be the trigger things need to really get going.
