Color spotter Scott Frank visited the Eastern Sierra last weekend and was blown away by Lee Vining Canyon.

The canyon is at Peak (75 – 100%) and is FANTASTIC!, he reported from his visit on Oct. 17 and 18.

“We spent a couple days looking around – June Lake, Mammoth area, Convict Lake, MCGee Creek Canyon… and the display of colors just wasn’t as good as other years. We were a bit disappointed. And then we took a last minute drive up Lee Vining Canyon and WOW!!! This may be the best place in that part of the Eastern Sierra right now (certainly of the places that we saw).”

Frank added that all up and down the canyon was great, bright colors, lots of yellow and orange aspens, the whole deal. The area around the Aspen Campground was absolutely stunning.

Please note that with weather currently moved into the Eastern Sierra (snow in the mountains today, Oct. 22) conditions may look a bit different this weekend.
