Running Out of Time for June Lake

People may not have much more time, reported color spotter Scott Frank after his visit to the June Lake Loop last weekend.

With weather having moved into the Eastern Sierra, we couldn’t agree more. The time is NOW for this spectacular loop.

“It is, as you’ve noted before, sort of a weird year; some parts are already denuded, some parts the leaves are barely turning,” Frank added.

“The very popular area around Silver Lake still has a lot of nice color on the aspens, but they’re starting to lose their leaves. You still get that classic gorgeous view of Mt. Carson along the road, framed at the base by aspens.”

“Overall the color isn’t as stunning as some years; or maybe it’s just not turned yet in a few areas; you often get a lot of orange up on the mountainsides farther down the loop; it’s pretty sparse this year.”
