Color spotters are raving this week about Rock Creek Canyon. This area is at Peak and in GO NOW! condition.

Julie Kirby visited the Group Campground on Sept. 23 and found a medley of color at the boat launch just below the road leading above Rock Creek Resort. Colors included greens, golds, and reds lining the hillside next to the parking lot and boat launch.

“At the same time, looking across the lake, West to SW, at the large camping area, there was was only a very few patches of yellow, ” she added. “A few most colorful trees were already losing leaves, so I was happy I decided not to wait another day. This spot, from the first parking area, leads down to the boat launch and seems to never disappoint with some lovely colors every year.”

Other spotters from Mono County declared that the display right now at Rock Creek is incredible.

As you drive up the road, the color really starts to show off around East Fork, currently at 50–75%. In the coming weeks, the color will continue down the first section of Rock Creek Road, and later to Lower Rock Creek Road and Trail (which makes for a great end-of-season hike or mountain bike ride).

Rock Creek Road (9,600’) – 75-100% (GO NOW!).
