A breezy Labor Day weekend did not deter the leaves in Mono County. They are hanging on and beginning to have some hints of color.
Fall is beginning to show itself in shades of green, lime green and a few hints of yellow. Changing light from dawn to dusk can make the colors seem to shift. In the bright midday sun, a hint of yellow might blend back into green. Catch the same trees in the softer light of early morning or evening, and suddenly those lime and golden tones are glowing.
Where to look right now, according to our friends at Mono County Tourism, “Rock Creek and Convict Lake are good bets for spotting some of those first hints of fall color.”
So if you are headed to Mono County this weekend for fun events such as the Mammoth Gran Fondo or the June Lake Jam Fest, make sure to look up to the trees to witness autumn quietly tiptoeing in.
And make sure to register for Paint Mono County if you’d prefer to capture fall colors with a paintbrush rather than a camera. The event takes place Sept. 20-27, but registration closes today, Sept. 11!
