Before the winter storm blew in earlier this week, photographer Peter Robbins and his wife went out on a night mission on Oct. 11 to capture some images at Hope Valley.
“No expectations for good light or time for daylight shooting, but I grabbed my camera thinking I might get lucky after dark,” Robbins explained. “Hope Valley looks good, perhaps not as great as in year’s past, but still looks promising for the next week, assuming the storm is not too bad, might even be spectacular with snow on the mountains.” See the latest report from after the storm here.
The couple went to dinner in Lake Tahoe and and then went back over the hill and waited for the moon to rise.
“I was hoping it would not completely wash out the Milky Way, which it essentially did, and still give enough light to shoot.
Posted is what Robbins captured around 10:30 to 11 pm, about 45 minutes to an hour after moonrise….. No dual exposure, stacking or other trickery, he said. “I DID create a sky mask to help darken the sky after brightening the foreground.”
