While peak-bagging the Glass Mountain Ridge last week, color spotter, CPC, discovered some near-peak color in the higher elevations of 9,000-10,000 feet. This location has never been reported on CaliforniaFallColor.com, so CPC also bagged the honor of a First Report.

From colorful bushes to quickly-changing aspens, this location is at Go Now status, if you are up for the adventure. There is a 4WD road that goes right through the grove but it is high clearance 4×4 so make sure you are prepared if you attempt to visit.

“There were aspens of all stages of coloration around Sawmill Meadow, but the best ones I saw were along the roads,” he said.” Take an easy dirt road off of the 120, but watch out for the obsidian chunks! The more advanced color trees were up the spur road that turns into the trail up to the Glass Mountain high point (rough latitude/longitude 37.77401/-118.68402).
