I’m always reminded what a special community we have here at CaliforniaFallColor.com when I send out a request to color spotters for a certain location and am greeted with at least three or four replies within a few hours.
This week we had requests for updates from Nevada City. Vishal Mishra and his wife, Seema, readily provided an excellent report, while Steve Arita did some research for us as well by calling the Empire Mine State Park, located about 3 miles from Nevada City.
“I just noticed you reached out to folks asking for Nevada city reports,” Vishal wrote back to me. “It’s a wonderful coincidence that Seema (my wife) and I [recently] went on a long drive to Grass Valley and Nevada City to check on the fall colors.”
“The colors are still patchy (10-40%) but should become spectacular in a couple of weeks,” he said.
Arita added that employees at the Empire State Mine told him that things were still pretty green. Colors in Sacramento where he lives are “unbelievably green,” too.
It was Vishal’s and Seema’s first time in Nevada City (and Grass Valley) and they loved the vibe of these towns.
“They are quite reminiscent of New England rather than the typical California gold we usually see. Also, there is so much history from the gold rush era that we surely want to spend more time there in the future.”
They were fascinated with the Nevada Theatre (Nevada City), which is California’s oldest operating theater.
“Overall, it’s such a quaint town; I cannot wait to be back. Also great Halloween decor was all around, showing the beginning of the festive vibes.”
