Color spotters Jennifer Natale and Marc Crumpler agree, there is one last chance to see great color in Hope Valley this weekend.
“I’d say you need to go now as the wind is forecast to pick up this weekend. Still at 75-100%, and some past peak,” Crumpler explained, but still worth a trip.
“Hope Valley still has enough color and leaves hanging on that a trip this weekend may still be worth it,” Natale said. “It’s still a go now, as other posters have reported.”
Other spots in the area that Natale added onto her trip this week were the Big Meadow Trail to Scott’s Lake and Spooner Lake.
“Usually I come [to Big Meadow] a week later but with reports of peak foliage in the area, I decided to come earlier,” she said. “The trail is a mix of peak, past peak, bare trees and some that have patchy green. It’s a go soon.”
“Some of the more vibrant trees were further off the trail and a few of the trees by the lake itself still had some green. Last year I hiked this after an early snow, so it was nice to hit the trail on a sunny day this time around.”
Her final stop was Spooner Lake, Nevada.
“This was mostly past peak with a few trees hanging on. If you go, don’t expect a lot of leaves, but the short loop around the lake is peaceful and a mellow walk. I bet it looked really pretty a few weeks ago.”
And finally, Brody Q. Scotland reported that Caples Lake, also along Hwy 88, is at Peak.
“What little color up there is about near or at peak,” he said. There’s minimal aspen trees (see photo) but what few are up there, are all yellow. There’s a tiny few pops of other aspen and other trees on the way back down the hill (west), but nothing worth writing home about.”
