Quickly Running Out of Hope

Poimiroo Hope Valley

Color spotters John Poimiroo and Phil Reedy met up in the Hope Valley on Tuesday and both agreed that Hope is quickly running out of fall color.

While beautiful color is still to be seen, the Hope Valley located on CA-88 (Carson Pass) is peaking a week early and many groves have dropped their leaves. Should winds increase, the remainder will likely be stripped of color. So, GO NOW!

Red Lake Creek Cabin, the prime viewing spot in the Valley, remains surrounded by bright color, with a mix of green, red, orange and yellow layered up the mountainside behind it. The color surrounding the Desolation Hotel (formerly Sorensen’s) is still bright, particularly when backlit. Groves along the north side of CA-88 are peaking, though at risk of dropping leaves. Don’t delay getting to the Hope Valley, as color is dropping each day.
