Foliage, Special Report

The arrival of spring is a hopeful time. Buds begin to peek out from their winter encasements and birds twitter in the trees. And there is nothing more hopeful than the rebirth of foliage after a fire.

Color spotter Ruby Jay sent us these photos from Pacific Palisades, where just a few short months ago a devastating fire ran rampant through the city.

“Spring has come to the Palisades,” she said.

“The two sycamore trees are alive and well with beautiful young green leaves shining in the afternoon sun. They bring so much hope!”

These two trees were the landmark shot that Ruby sent in as the fire started and quickly spread. They were the frame for her first glimpse of the smoke on the horizon.

On this first day of spring we hope that these much less frightening shots are a sign of what is to come for the rest of the year … hope, rebirth and peace.
