North Lake in Bishop Creek Canyon is always a favorite fall color viewing spot in the Eastern Sierra and this year has been no exception. We’ve received many photos of the traditional lake shot with color cascading down the mountain, and this week we received some images of the beauty all around the lake.
From color spotter Dave Pabinquit, “Mostly past peak however, there are isolated pockets of color and a few individual aspens offering brilliantly near peak or peak color.”
From another color spotter, Scott Frank, “I’d say officially past peak – definitely it’s on the downslope. Along the road a lot of the leaves are gone; and on that mountain above the lake itself, probably 20-30% or so have lost their leaves. Still beautiful, though!”
We love this location and agree with Frank that it is still beautiful even as it starts to fade. Many others love this location as well and have it on their bucket list, but did you know it can often receive too much traffic, causing congestion and crowded travel on already-rough roads? Please remember, if you visit this beautiful spot, to leave no trace and recreate responsibly. Please do not create your own parking spot or stop in the middle of the road to take your pictures.
Additionally, make sure you GO NOW! as this spot will most likely be past peak after this weekend.
North Lake (9,225′) – Peak (75 – 100%), GO NOW!
