The historic Yosemite sugar maple has begun turning red, according to a post today on the Yosemite Blog.
California fall color may have dodged a bullet from yesterday’s big storm.
The Meadowcliff Resort reports the aspen, cottonwood and elms are turning color from the Antelope Valley to the crest of Monitor Pass.

Snow and a cold snap knocked the fall color off aspen trees above 8,500′ in California this past week, but didn’t affect trees at lower elevations which retain their leaves and continue to transition from green to yellow, orange and red.
Fall color reports from the Eastern Sierra… the color viewing is moving north along US 395 from Bishop to the Walker Canyon.
Kahlee Brighton reports from the Bishop Creek and Rock Creek drainages in the Eastern Sierra that snow, wind and freezing temperatures have knocked color down the canyons. Lower elevations at Aspendell and Intake II are now coloring up.
