Just in Time for June Lake

Budding photographer David Barnstone sent in the following this week:

“I took a tip from your website and ventured out to see the amazing color near Silver Lake,” he said. He found the area at Peak and other color spotters agreed.

Mono County Tourism had the following to say, “We would put June at about 75%. Grant Lake has a large green grove that looks poised to change any day. All the bright oranges that were there last week are gone. But the areas around Silver Lake and Rush Creek are still showing off and the ski area is a real stunner. One peeper we ran into said, ‘who knew the best color would be at the ski area?'”

Spotter Mark Hanning-Lee also said, “South half of the loop is Peak 75 to 100% with aspens and spreading dogbane.”

And spotter Dan Fox sent in a special treat with his image of Parker Bench above Grant Lake – a unique perspective we don’t always see.

“I would rate it ‘Peak – Go Now.’ But there are many sections of this grove that have already lost their leaves, so this may go to ‘Past Peak – You Missed It’ any day now,” he said.

June Lake Loop/Hwy 158 (7,654′) – 75-100% Peak (GO NOW!).
