GO NOW!, like right now to Hope Valley. Color spotter Jen Miyara was there yesterday, Oct. 3, 2026 and said that the area was Peak to Past Peak depending on where you looked.
“Entering Hope Valley along Hwy 89 many trees are past peak, yellow tops but leaves have fallen off lower half,” Miyara said. “Section around the old cabin has stands of green but overall, the area is past peak.”
She added that the stretch of Hwy 88 around the Desolation Hotel is at peak.
Colors have been peaking about a week early this year and this is just one more example of the fast-paced season. Don’t wait to get out there to your favorite spot and enjoy Mother Nature’s colorful show.
