We often say that fall color can be found in your own backyard if you look for it at the right time of the season, but specifically curating your own color is possible, too!
Garden photographer Saxon Holt recently shared photos of his stunning garden in Novato, which he began planning 25 years ago, specifically for fall color.
“I saw the recent newspaper piece in the Bay Area news group and was delighted to have someone talk about fall color,” he said. “As a garden photographer I have learned it is quite possible to get fall color and few realize it.”
His own garden was planned because he had seen fall color come to life on various assignments throughout the years
“What people don’t realize, especially in northern California, these are all totally drought tolerant because our native soil is clay and holds water if you take care of it, mulching, etc.,” he added.
His garden is full of Japanese maples, Persimmons, Ginkgo, and Pistachio, which typically go off in late November, early December.
What inspired us the most here at CFC was the quote at the bottom of Holt’s email: “Gardens matter. Every small act we do adds resiliency.”
Great food for thought as we head into the New Year.
