Color spotter Ruby Jay found beautiful color around South California in the course of three days.
First up was Santa Monica at 20th Street and Arizona Avenue on November 17.
“Turning the corner of the street, I met this beautiful tree,” she said. “I especially liked the reflection of the orange color leaves on the window pane.”
The following day she found color at Holycross Place, Westchester and Loyola Marymount University.
“I saw these two trees right south of Loyola Marymount University,” she said. “The orange-red color leaves are so beautiful in the sunlight.”
The Ginkgo leaves are still green to yellow at Loyola Marymount.
“They seem to be taking it easy to stretch the fall colors longer. Will they be golden by Thanksgiving or not until Christmas? That‘s a million dollar question.”
“I had to use pano view of the iPhone (at the courtyard of a building at Loyola) to get the white clouds, blue sky and the reflection of the tree in the water into the same picture. Even with the building being crooked, I like the colors and the geometric forms of this picture.”
“The late afternoon sunlight coming into the courtyard through the windows feels warm and peaceful.”
As for the rooftop, “To the north direction, the clouds are amazing in the blue sky. To the west, the late afternoon sun is reflected in the water on the outdoor oval tables. They are so different yet each has its own beauty.”
The humble-looking small flowers were really beautiful.
She returned to Loyola on November 19 and found a tree that was definitely past its peak and the leaves were sparse. Yet they brightened up in the late afternoon sun like small lanterns on the tree, while the Sacred Heart Chapel was serenely magnificent with the beautiful clouds in the background, she said.
Southern California – Peak to Past Peak. You almost missed it.
