In Plumas County, colors are at their peak and slowly fading from brilliant hues to muted golds and greens that are still quite beautiful and amazing.
There are still plenty of colors along Highway 89 in Indian Valley and Highway 32 coming from Chico. If on Highway 89, a detour into Taylorsville is always fun to look at a few of the famous quilt barns that are part of Plumas County lore and tradition. A stop by Young’s market offers a great selection of international cheeses and more to keep you “fueled.”
While visiting, you might also consider another great tradition in Plumas County, which is cutting down your Christmas trees. Plumas County offers over 2 million acres of forest with areas designated to find that perfect tree from White and Douglas Fir to the coveted silver tips, which can be found at higher elevations.
Make sure you pick-up a few treats from the Koninkrijk Koffiehuis, a charming European café known for the finest coffee, pastries and signature dishes from the Netherlands.
Permits are $10 and available in Chester at Ayoob’s Intermountain Hardware and Lake Almanor Ace Hardware. You can also get them online https://www.recreation.gov/tree-permits/27724292-ebd0-11ea-b83f-6e0e43d29f74/order
