Placerville, Chinese Pistache at peak (10/30/25) Michelle Pontoni,
Fall color spotter Michelle Pontoni reported along Highway 50 the day before Halloween.
“From the fiery brilliance of the Chinese Pistachio in Placerville on Friday, to the naked trees as we entered Nevada, we found miles and miles of color along highway 50,” she said.
It’s not too late to catch the oaks in the El Dorado National Forest along the South Fork of the American River. If the leaves can survive the short rain coming on Wednesday, it will provide a brilliant contrast between the colors and the wet pines along the way.
A few bright aspens remained at the California State Park Lake Tahoe Golf Course. But most of the aspens in South Lake Tahoe are done.
