Delightful Color at Devils Postpile

Color spotter Soyoung Kim had a delightful day of color last Saturday, from Devils Postpile and Rainbow Falls in the Reds Meadow Valley to Sagehen Summit.

“Before we took off for Sagehen Summit, we visited Rainbow Falls after work,” she said “Beautiful color there, too!”

Kim and her friend raced from Reds Meadow to Sagehen Summit to get there before the sun went down (see photos below). She felt that the colors were a little past peak, but so, so beautiful.

We don’t often receive photos from Devils Postpile and Rainbow Falls because the area is only open on Saturday and Sunday this time of year, and accessible by shuttle bus only. This weekend is most likely the last weekend the area will be open as well, as the Reds Meadow Road is tentatively scheduled to close October 6, 2025.

Rainbow Falls (7,415′) – Patchy (10 – 50%)

Devil’s Postpile (7,500′) – Patchy (10 – 50%)

Sagehen Summit (8,139’) – Peak to Past Peak (75-100%)
