The dramatic mountains surrounding Convict Lake create the perfect backdrop for fall color each year. Mount Morrison, Laurel Mountain and others add to Mother Nature’s palette to create a unique autumn scene only found in the Eastern Sierra.

Generally a favorite spot for fisherpeople, Convict Lake is also great for hiking and leaf peeping.

Currently, more trees and bushes along the pathway at the lake are continuing to shift. The aspen grove in the back is at about 50% peak with patches of green still lingering, according to color spotter Kim Espinosa with Mammoth Lakes Tourism.

Lots of brushes and cottonwoods are showing significant color changes. The aspen grove cascading down the mountain continues to change to yellow and orange, currently at about 30% peak.
