Michelle Pontoni visited the Freshwater Farms Preserve on a calm summer eve last Tuesday, Sept. 16.
The preserve is part of the Northcoast Regional Land Trust and is just under five miles east of downtown Eureka on Myrtle Avenue, she explained. Parking and a self guided, well marked trail with informational signs are free to all public visitors.
“The easy, one-mile smooth path follows Freshwater Creek on its way west to Humboldt Bay,” Pontoni said. “It is a favorite trail of many and so easy to reach.”
The Northcoast Regional Land Trust has permanently protected more than 65,000 acres throughout northwestern California. Most of this land belongs to private landowners. You can read more here: https://ncrlt.org/
