Earlier this week color spotter Kathy Jonokuchi visited her “go-to for fall color, Peter Strauss Ranch in Agoura Hills.”

She explained that the Ranch is part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

“The Western Sycamore is near peak,” she said. “The non-native Nanday Conures have made the mountains their home since last century. Interestingly, the valley oak leaves haven’t really turned color yet.”

Visitor tips from Jonokuchi: go in the morning as the shade comes over the trees around noon. Stay on the trails. Dogs are welcome on a leash. The creek bed for Triunfo Creek is dry now, but that may change this weekend.
