One of the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s premier sites and 100 years old, Hakone is one of the oldest Japanese estate, retreat and gardens in the Western Hemisphere, according to its website, hakone.com.

Hakone has also been on the National Register of Historic Places since 2013. Eighteen acres of magnificent beauty is nestled in the verdant hills of Saratoga overlooking Silicon Valley.

Photographer Lucas Yan visited this beautiful spot near San Jose on November 8 and found the garden to be at peak. This Japanese garden owned by the city of Saratoga hosts events among other things and one such event was underway during Yan’s visit, which only added to the beauty of the location.
