When you can’t get away, chasing color in your hometown is always a great alternative as color spotter Lance Pifer has discovered this year.

Reporting from Santa Ynez, Los Olivos, Solvang and the Botanic Garden in Santa Barbara this week, Pifer shared a little piece of home.

As of Oct. 25, there looked to be another month of fall colors in Santa Ynez with Solvang just beginning to hit its stride.

“Cottonwoods on the Ynez River at Alisol Ranch Road should be looking great by late November,” Pifer said.

The Botanic Garden is beginning to change color as well and is worth a visit.

“If I can’t get to the Sierra during peak time then sharing my hometown isn’t too shabby,” he added. “More to come from an underrated location in Santa Barbara County.”
