The beauty of fall keeps getting better in Plumas County with some areas reaching their peak and others continuing to change, dazzling peepers with spectacular color.
Try to keep your eyes on the road as you travel down Highway 32 where you are literally “wrapped in color,” as trees in all shades bedeck either side of the road.
When you visit Chester, remember to wander and not just go down Main Street. Side roads offer a bench for a picnic, a walk along the Feather River and so much more. The fall colors are everywhere.
Behind Quincy, at the end of Coburn Street, you can walk the Learning Landscape Trail on the American Valley Service District Land public property. It’s an easy, one-mile walk that will be reaching its peak in the next week.
The loop up the Big Creek Road to Haskins, then back down the Bucks Lake Road to Quincy is spectacular and will remain so for next few weeks. On Big Creek Road, the bigleaf maples are spectacular, and the dogwood is simply beautiful. The aspens at Haskins have finally peaked and are just gorgeous.
Bucks Lake Road offers beautiful colors, and the aspens a couple of miles west of the lake are stunning. The oaks are also turning well, showing their lovely golden leaves. There’s a great deal of color in Meadow Valley, including a lovely view of Spanish Peak with golden trees in the foreground.
If an overnight stay in Quincy is in your plans, wrap yourself in color at the lovely Feather Bed Inn and enjoy a seasonal nosh at Carey’s Candy. Don’t forget to ask about their Plumas Knots – a sweet treat you won’t forget.
