In addition to what he already reported this week, Phil Reedy continued along US 395 in the Eastern Sierra on Wednesday and Thursday for what he described as “two of the best days I have had for photographing fall colors.”
“So go now before it’s too late,” he added.
Here is a summary of what he saw:
1. McGee Creek Road is perfect right now, with every tree in full color. It is especially nice in the morning when the sun hits the mountains. And there are plenty of deer right along the road. I managed to snap a quick cell phone shot out my car window.
2. Convict Creek Road is just as beautiful as McGee and also at peak.
3. Lundy Lake Road is gorgeous as well and also at peak.
4. Virginia Lakes Road is mostly bare trees except near Virginia Creek just off of Highway 395. And unless you are feeling brave (or foolhardy), the snow on the road beyond the Dunderberg Meadow Road turnoff makes the lakes inaccessible by car for now.
5. Conway Summit is beautiful with almost every tree having reached peak color and a few having lost their leaves.
6. There is plenty of color along the West Walker River north of Highway 108 as well.
