Plumas is the Place to Be

Keddie with colors getting close to peaking

Colors continue to pop in Plumas County and put the awe in autumn. Dogwood can be seen throughout the county whether you are biking, hiking or on the road. They are coming onto the scene with daily changes and will do so for another two weeks or so, before reaching their peak. There is a trail three miles outside of Laporte called Little Creek, as well as an area at the UC Berkeley Camp outside of Meadow Valley, where the dogwoods are a feast for the eyes.

Another place in the county that just keeps getting prettier is Old Highway Road near Keddie. The colors here will not disappoint.

While the Black Oaks still have a ways to go, look for them in the coming weeks on the Q Trail near Quincy. When in Quincy, look for the big Q on the hill and find the trail behind the high school that winds through these beautiful trees.

While in Quincy make sure you visit The Toy Store for a wonderful selection of ice cream to refuel and keep your eyes open for late-season thru-hikers taking a break from the Pacific Crest Trail, a 2,650-mile hike from the Mexican to Canadian border.

And if your day ends in Quincy (the county seat), surround yourself in the seasonal colors with a stay at the Feather Bed Inn. It’s as charming as the town itself.
