Color spotters were stunned into silence with the magical views at Conway Summit following this week’s storm in the Eastern Sierra.

“WOW. There are no words — please look at the photos,” said Mono County Tourism.

As you head south on 395, use the large pullouts on the west side overlooking Dunderberg Meadows to view the area.

Also in the area, Twin Lakes out of Bridgeport is sparkling. Brilliant reflections, healthy color, and the jagged snow-covered Sawtooths and surrounding peaks make this one of the most photogenic stops of the week.

Finally, the Walker River Canyon is glowing gold and orange, and this beautiful, shaded stretch should reach full peak soon. Mountaingate Park and other pullouts make for great picnic stops (tip: use the restrooms at Walker Park before or after your scenic drive).

Topaz Lake and area is nearly to 50%, with change moving quickly; we expect this area to reach 50-75% later next week.

Please note that many of the mountain passes, including Monitor, Sonora and Tioga were still closed from the storm at the end of the day on Oct. 15. They are expected to reopen soon.

Virginia Lakes (9,819’) — Peak to Past Peak. GO NOW! You almost missed it.
While there are no reports from this area this week, knowledgeable color spotters report that from what they’ve seen recently, the lake level is past peak while the road still offers lovely pockets of color.

Summers Meadow/Green Creek (7,200’+) — Peak (75-100%) GO NOW!
Again, no official report this week but based on the views from 395 and Conway, we are guessing this area has bumped up to Peak.

Conway Summit/Dunderberg Meadows (~8,143) — Peak (75-100%) GO NOW!

Twin Lakes (7,000′)  — Near Peak (50-75%) Go Now.

West Walker River, Walker, Coleville & Topaz (5,200′)  — Near Peak (50-75%) Go Now.
