Steve Arita visited Lundy Lake this weekend, capturing the beauty before this week’s weather rolled in.
His pictures are all at the beaver pond closest to the trailhead parking lot and down by the boat ramp area.
“It was a cold morning, with temps in the low 20’s through 9:30 am or so,” Arita said. “The pond was nearly iced over completely when I arrived at 8 am and it didn’t break up even as the morning wore on and the sun rose in the sky. I unfortunately had to leave at 11:30 am, so no mirror reflection pics, although the “ice” reflections offered some interesting photo opportunities. That said, it was a beautiful morning with clear skies and no wind, at least till around 10:30 am or so.”
“I didn’t hike up into the canyon as I had to get on the road for home; don’t know how many of the trees will make it through with the incoming storm, but hopefully there will be some left to enjoy.”
On his way home, he estimated at least 20-25% fewer leaves at Conway Summit compared to when he came through on Friday. The Saturday winds really knocked a lot of leaves down.
“However, there is still enough to enjoy and I saw some layers of lime green trees,” he said. “These hopefully will survive the storm.”
