Philip Reedy sent in this urgent report yesterday – now is the time for Highway 88.
“I decided to head back up highway 88 yesterday, this time in the afternoon rather than my usual early morning,” Reedy said. “I had planned on staying until sunset, but the wind was ferocious, so low light and long exposures wouldn’t have worked too well. I wanted to get this report to you ASAP as nearly everything is peaking right now, so this is the weekend to go. From Silver Lake to Sorenson’s, the colors are great, but the wind is already starting to strip some of the leaves. And with cold and snow coming next week, the next couple of days will be perfect.”
This includes Hope Valley.
He noted that one particularly nice location is the mountainside just west of the West Carson River and about a mile west of the 88/89 interchange.
“I’ve been going there for 15 years and the aspens always provide a beautiful variety of colors,” he said. “It is best in the afternoon when the trees are backlit by the sun. GO NOW!”
