Fall colors are arriving quickly in Plumas County and should be spectacular over the next few weeks.
In Quincy there are many beautiful trees, including the Thieler Maple, which remains stunning. There’s also nice color along Chandler Road and Oakland Camp Road.
The Sugar Maple at the Thompson Ranch on LaPorte Road will need at least a couple of weeks to reach its peak while the Big Leaf Maples along Bucks Lake Road and Big Creek Road are starting to look good.
The trees are just beginning to look good along Hwy 89 heading toward Indian Valley. The big maple by Dixie Valley Road will peak in 2-3 weeks. Out in Indian Valley and the Genesee area, beautiful color is beginning to appear. As always, the trees by the Genesee Store are peaking now, and there is beautiful foliage along the Beckwourth-Genesee Road as it follows Indian Creek. Still not at peak but will not disappoint.
Deer Creek calls if you want to see colors ranging from gold to reds to purple as you hike along a bubbling, crystal-clear creek. Find this colorful gem of a location to see fall colors off of Highway 32 approximately 30 minutes outside of Chester. And if you want to combine “peeping,” with some fishing, take your fly rod for the possibility. The entrance to the hike is somewhat hidden, so drive slowly, it is easy to miss.
For that extra boost of energy, try warm fall drinks from Cravings or Rusty Chandelier, both located on Main Street in Chester.
