Colorado colors along Rabbit Ears Pass, Hwy 70 as you head south from Silverthorne, and then up to Independence Pass out of Buena Vista were progressing to peak, reported color spotter and photographer, Steven Arita.

Steve was on his fourth day of a 10 day trip chasing fall colors in Colorado.

Fall colors were about 60%, while some areas were at near peak when he took these photos on Sept. 20 and 21.

“Peak is expected around the end of September – first week of October, although as you know, it all depends on where you are,” Arita said.

“I had heard from folks to come a week earlier, because they had a hot summer with little rain, but they received some rain over the past few weeks, and I think that may have delayed the timing a bit. Today [Sept. 21] it rained off and on, with some hail at Independence Pass.”
