In the past week, leaf peepers from around the state have started sending in reports. Even though fall hasn’t officially arrived, it seems everyone is just as excited as we are. Chasing those beautiful colors has officially begun!

Steve Arita noticed a few trees were already turning color along the American River Parkway in Sacramento last week, although it was only the trees in the photographs. All other trees along the river are not turning.

Lance Pifer has been noticing that the cottonwood trees are turning earlier this year and is thinking that they are drought stressed.

Risa Wyatt noticed those first, tell-tale Chinese Pistache trees starting to blush red in Napa and Sonoma counties.

In Redwood Country, Michelle Pontoni explained, “we are treated with a very special kind of fall colors. Entire batches of Redwood needles turn orange right about this time of year. With the first big wind, they will be spread all over the forest floor.

While Lucas Yan went to Virginia Lakes, Dunderberg Peak, and Mono Lake on Sept. 6. “There were a few yellow leaves on the Aspens on the Virginia Lake approach, but it was mostly green (0-15% bucket in terms of color). I ended up skiing a patch of snow on Dunderberg Peak and went down to Mono Lake for the sunset/moonrise.”

Will fall arrive earlier this year? What do you think?
