Truckee Before the Storm

Truckee looked postcard-perfect last week (10/30/24) Sylvia Wright

Things have been pretty beautiful this fall, especially in all areas of the Sierra Nevada. Leaf peepers have been fortunate to have an extended season to view autumn’s glory in this area of California. Many reports have come in capturing the beauty of the colors right before a storm hit. Since this photo was taken, there has been snow in Truckee that definitely would have changed the look of this picture.

The interesting part of this season, however, is that even with wind and rain and snow entering the equation, many pockets of color hang on. So while normally we would say at this time of year that this part of California is past peak, and you missed it, this year, we’re thinking that if you have an adventurous spirit, you might want to check it out and see what color remains. You might be surprised at what you find.

Truckee (5,817′) – Peak to Past Peak. You almost missed it.
