This week the Eastern Sierra experienced high winds combined with snow showers and cold weather, making for some beautiful photos, but also signaling the last chance to catch fall colors this season in places such as Mammoth Lakes.
We guessed that it would already be over with the current conditions, but color spotter Samantha Lindberg said there was still color to be found as of 10/20/24.
“WOW, this may be one of the longest seasons of reporting we have done in recent years,” she exclaimed. “To recap, we began to see colors emerge at the end of August and now we are approaching November!”
Areas that are still peaking have sections that are past peak due to peaking earlier in the season, but there are still good opportunities for finding color, Lindberg explained.
In Mammoth Lakes, the town was at peak this week, with some sections now past peak. You can still take a walk or a bike ride through the colors along the Lakes Basin Path along Lake Mary Road or the Town Loop Path where you must make sure to check out the area around Snowcreek. But don’t delay! More snow is in the forecast this weekend.
