Color spotter Dave Pabinquit can’t get enough of the Eastern Sierra, but on his visit this week he concluded that most of the higher elevations are past peak.

However, there are still pockets of color even in areas that have peaked, he said, which seems to be the theme of the season.

For those that are still considering catching the remaining Eastern Sierra fall colors, go now, especially with this weekend’s cold front coming in. June Lake Loop seems to have the most concentrated color and fall color to emerge, according to Pabinquit.

“I found the most aspens that are greenish-yellow and should be peaking soon on the northern end of June Lake Loop.”

“Conway Summit north is way past peak with a few remaining pockets of color. The large aspen grove in and about the McGee Creek campground still has a large portion of greenish-yellowing leaves and will most likely come into peak color soon.”

This mix of color has been seen in the Eastern Sierra throughout the season and has created quite a variety in Mother Nature’s palette this year.
