Color spotter Rick Horn captured plein air artists painting the fall colors in the Eastern Sierra last week. Plein air painting is the practice of painting outdoors, capturing the essence of a subject or landscape in natural light, color and movement, so what better time of year than fall to practice this art form?
The term comes from the French phrase plein air, which means “in the open air,” which is where fall colors shine brightest and show off the best.
Horn visited Inyo and Mono counties with his wife Sandy.
The Eastern Sierra is currently a mix of color with areas ranging from Near Peak, to Peak to Past Peak. Check our reports and map tomorrow for more info.
