Make Your Way to Martis Creek

Martis Creek continues its varied development from patchy color to past peak, says fall color expert John Poimiroo. This turnout on CA-267 near Old Brockway Summit is speckled with aspen groves that struggle from lack of water and a micro climate that encourages black spot algae.

“This year, the black spot is minimal, but so is the show,” Poimiroo said. “The easternmost grove is nearly past peak, while the main grove that surrounds a decaying cabin varies from just starting to done and over.”

A favorite location for photographers because of the cabin, broad sky, fallen trees and glistening color, you’re sure to capture scenes like this, but don’t delay, Poimiroo advised. “It will be finished soon.”
