Head for the Hills

Heading for the sunshine in the Alabama Hills (10/6/24) Lucas Yan

Lucas Yan squeezed in one more day of autumn adventure during his recent trip to the Eastern Sierra. His plans to visit Pine Creek Canyon on Sunday fizzled while he was shooting at Lake Sabrina and the clouds rolled in earlier than expected.

“I prefer sunlit shots of leaves,” he explained.

So he went to Alabama Hills in Lone Pine instead before catching his flight back home out of Bishop.

“Lake Sabrina is definitely past peak for the aspens on the left side, but the plants and shrubbery on the right are still orange and at peak which makes for a nice photo,” Yan said.

“Lone Pine/Alabama Hills is at 0%. I know there are usually some cottonwoods that turn color but they were unfortunately all green,” he reported.

The weather was, however, sunny and warm. Yan found the area to be a great alternative to an overcast and drizzly Bishop/Mammoth Lakes.
