Relishing Rock Creek: GO NOW!

Color spotter Jack Stein took a trip up Rock Creek Road on Sunday, Oct. 6. In his words, “I think the entire drive (lower, middle and upper elevations) merits the famous GO NOW designation.” We couldn’t agree more.

Stein added that he and his wife, Emely, were blown away by the beautiful mix of golden and green aspens at lower elevations.

“The stretches of road near Aspen Group Campground and Big Meadow Campground are probably closer to 75%, but the yellow/green contrast is lovely,” he said. “A few stands of aspens along the lower to middle elevation have already lost their leaves, too – I think the time to go is now, as this could quickly become past peak depending on weather patterns,” he added.

“Of course, upper Rock Creek from East Fork Campground to the lake is majestic – orange and yellow aspens framed by massive green pines and towering granite peaks,” Stein said. “The upper elevation areas are definitely at 100% and won’t be around much longer.”
