The latest from Mono County is showing that Virginia Lakes is peaking and you should GO NOW! Other areas such as Dunderberg Meadowns, Summers Meadow and Green Creek are not too far behind.
There was a little rain throughout the county on Friday which may have knocked some leaves down, so don’t wait for fall colors in the Eastern Sierra. Get out there or plan you visit soon.
Virginia Lakes (9,819’) — 75-100% Peaking (GO NOW!) The higher areas around Virginia Lakes Resort, Trumbull Lake Campground, and Big and Little Virginia Lakes are peaking and won’t last much longer, while the rest of the area is progressing with lots of yellow and some orange. Virginia Lakes Resort closes for the season on October 7 so enjoy breakfast or lunch there this weekend!
Conway Summit (8,143) — 10-50% Patchy. A beautiful mix of every color, this area will be bumping up to the “Go Now” category soon.
Dunderberg Meadows/Summers Meadow/Green Creek (7,200’+) — 50-75% Near Peak (Go Now!) This network of rough dirt roads is super fun to explore for those who are comfortable and capable. The color change is sweeping through this area and should be enjoyed sooner rather than later! Please plan accordingly: high-clearance AWD or 4WD recommended, no restrooms, no trash removal.
