October is kicking off with vibrant colors in Plumas County. Golden yellows and deep reds are spreading across the region and some regular “peepers” are even saying they rival the colors on the East Coast! Though not yet at their peak, Bucks Lake, Meadow Valley, and the Feather River Canyon are just a few spots where fall foliage is beginning to show. Make your plans now to visit this colorful area of California.

If you want to capture the colors of fall in Plumas County, or anywhere, check out these photography tips. Experiment with different angles, lighting, and compositions to get a unique and/or enhanced view. Better yet, try to shoot in different weather conditions to create a fresh perspective.

Some of the lesser-known spots can offer spectacular spectrums of colors so be adventurous and take a trip off the beaten path. Consider checking out Thompson Lake, where photographer Bob Blesse is seeing the leaves change color right in front of his eyes. However, even just taking a drive through local neighborhoods can offer beauty around every corner.

Plan your visit soon and stay a few days to soak up the charm of the small towns in the region, each with its own “personality,” local events, and “flavors” of the season. While you are here, get yourself a sweet treat and enjoy Caramel bread pudding from the Genesee Store in Taylorsville. Don’t miss out on the First Annual Chowder vs. Chili Cook-off with live music, games, and food taking place at the world famous Riley’s Jerky on October 5.
