Color spotter Nhi Casey captured some absolutely stunning photos at Lake Sabrina and the North Lake area in Inyo County on September 29 and 30.
Casey stated that the colors were at peak and very beautiful. We couldn’t agree more!
Please remember that these areas have limited parking and rough roads. Please be courteous and kind when visiting. Don’t make your own parking spot or crowd others. If an area is full, consider visiting another location.
Lake Sabrina and the North Lake area – Peak (75-100%) GO NOW!

Torn in deciding between Oct 5th or Oct 12th weekend :'(
Which weekend would be better for Bishop creek and Mono County area, any suggestions from your experience? When should we expect **GO NOW** in bold recommendation?
Hello! GO NOWs in bold will be coming for some of the areas in those locations this week.Either weekend should be fine, but we always recommend visiting an area as soon as you can once it begins to peak because you never know when a weather event could occur and blow the leaves off the trees.
I was there Sept 25 to Oct 2 and just returned home. The fall color were awesome.
Some area with patchy of yellow, orange, crimson and yellow, still greener, but very contrast.
And there are several water falls, Horsetail, Misty Falls . . .
The Monitor Pass was past its peak. Check California Fall Color, 2024, everyday.

Hello I am planning on visiting the North Lake on Oct 2 or Oct 4, is that still a good time to capture the colors? Also i personally like the photo of the north lake posted by Nhi Casey, any specific suggestions for capturing the landscape? The location is one in my list to capture all of the iconic MacOS wallpaper locations, and i dont want to miss any chances, so any information and guidance would greatly appreciated.
Hi Prasanna, yes Oct. 2 or 4 will still be a great time to capture the colors. The weather has been beautiful and there are no big wind events in the forecast this week. In terms of capturing landscape photos, make sure you choose the right time of day (usually sunrise or sunset) and that you use a tripod for stability. Here’s a fun article about landscape photography from B&H Photo: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/photography/tips-and-solutions/tips-for-landscape-photography?BI=572&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw3vO3BhCqARIsAEWblcBbbxbpFLGBZXSorXg-0MPfS1ub0SMmqzSo0f4QJlcszOCflpVdrpoaArJAEALw_wcB
Any word on Big Pine or Onion Valley? Would love to make it up there in the next week-10 days, but maybe not go as far north as Bishop. Both are beautiful spots in the fall but I haven’t seen reports on either.
We received this report from Big Pine Creek on September 23: https://californiafallcolor.com/2024/09/23/forking-over-some-fall-color/
Should be pretty prime now. If you make it, consider sending us some updates, thank you!
I will be visiting Highway 395 this weekened i.e Oct 18th-19th and 20th please guide me any places to visit for fall colors any place is fine on the sierra mountains
Hi there! The area is experiencing a cold snap, so make sure to pack a jacket for your fall color adventure. There is still color to be found at the lower elevations of Bishop Creek Canyon and Rock Creek Canyon. Additionally, Conway Summit, Summers Meadow, Lee Vining Canyon and Lundy Lake are either at peak or near peak right now. The June Lake Loop and Convict Lake are also looking good right now. Please note that with the cold snap there is also some wind. We cannot predict how many leaves it will blow down in the next few days, but there should still be plenty of beautiful color to see. Happy hunting!
