Tahoe Needs More Time

Fall Color Report, Northern Sierra

Color spotter Janet Fullwood visited South Lake Tahoe last week and reported that there is not much to report … yet.

There were “just juvenile maple trees at hotels and a few yellow tinges on small aspen bushes. But it’s coming soon very soon,” she said. It is, however, “big-time pinecone season,” she added. “Careful they don’t hit you on the head!”

While she didn’t see anything much in town or on the mountains, on the way home, after turning south on Hwy 50, she glimpsed a grove of bright yellow aspens on the other side of the road, and another in Placerville.

Look for more changes in these areas as well as Hope Valley and Carson Pass in the coming weeks.
