Davis is still looking quite beautiful as of earlier this week when Philip Reedy took a break from putting up Christmas decorations to walk a couple of blocks around his house.

“The trees are in full autumn glory right now,” he says. “The Gingko Biloba are all bright yellow and the Chinese Pistache and Chinese Tallow are great as well.”

  1. Gorgeous photos, Phil. I believe the autumn vine is a bougainvillea. They were discovered by French botanist, Philibert Commerçon in 1768 and named after French Admiral Louis Antoine de Bougainville during his circumnavigation of Earth. The South American thorny vine has many varieties and grows well in temperate Mediterranean climates, like California. One variety, orange-magenta in color, is named after the California city of Camarillo, which has designated it as its city flower. Though bougainvillea petals are not flowers but bracts, similar to dogwood blossoms. Now, that’s more about bougainvillea than most readers want or need to know, but then my floral trivia is as nettlesome as a bougainvillea.
