Do you think the colors on the high mountainside will be there then?
I think the colors round the lake will be fine then.

Kent, I’m receiving reports that the mountainside behind North Lake has lost its color and is now Past Peak. Some say that between Friday (when Elliot McGucken shot this) and Sunday, much of the color around the lake was wind-blown. Green and lime leaves around the lake have, most likely, not been lost and will peak this week, but will be gone by Oct. 12. Nevertheless, there will be plenty of great color elsewhere in the Eastern Sierra (June Lake).
A shot like Elliot’s is full peak. The best way to use this site is as a research tool. Search under archives for areas that were peaking on Oct. 12 (last year or previous years) or within a week thereafter, then go to those areas and you should see gorgeous peak color. As for North Lake, plan to visit next year between Sept. 25 and 30 and you should see peak color.
